The Youwind wind resource analysis supports any uploaded time series or wind resource grid files to assess resource quality, uncertainty, and energy potential by interpreting results at any turbine position.

Area Screening

Evaluate, explore and optimise new areas and designs in minutes by screening global wind development zones with built in and weekly updated GIS data. Evaluate area constraints and exclusion zones such as shipping routes, environmental zones, and proximity to substations, and generate LCoE heatmaps for area comparison.

Layout Optimisation

Create and compare multiple layout options using regular, staggered, irregular or micrositing-based designs. Visualise wake effects, estimate losses, and automatically generate layout scenarios with cloud-based computing in minutes.

Validated Advanced Wake Models

Run wake and blockage simulations with advanced models such as TurbOPark, N.O. Jensen, and Eddy Viscosity. Analyse internal and external wake losses and use the system in pinpointing the insights on wind conditions and wake effects incluiding data uncertainty in a cloud environment.

Site Suitability

Ensure turbine compatibility by applying IEC standards (IEC 61400-1 ed. 2, 3, amendment 1, and draft 4). Evaluate turbulence intensity turbulence intensity class turbine design, terrain complexity, and wind sector management strategies for compliance and performance.

Foundation Design

Does Youwind assess the effective Turbulence Intensity for each turbine position?

Yes, the effective turbulence is set on each turbine position based on the wake model applied on top of the ambient turbulence.

What GIS layers are included in the Youwind platform?

Youwind includes relevant areas for your wind farm design that are publically available, from designated areas for wind farms to technical and environmental constraints, human activities,such as vessel density, fishing activities, existing infrastructure of cables and pipelines and other useful data for calculations, such as harbours and onshore electrical substations. Youwind also displays the depth contour and the wind map from Vortex FdC.
