Onshore wind platform technical features

Youwind brings together a powerful suite of onshore-specific technical features to intuitively and thoroughly screen, model, and optimise wind projects. From land-use evaluation to grid integration, each module is designed to deliver usability, precision, and performance across every stage of development.

Wind Resource

Work with validated Vortex datasets integrated directly in Youwind, including ERA5 20-year rolling averages and custom Weibull distributions, as well as GWA map. Upload your own WRG files, time series, or connect to LES, SERIES, and TIMES. Assess wind shear profiles, temporal patterns, and uncertainty—all per turbine position backed by accurate horizontal extrapolation methodology and globally scalable. Possibility to apply a scalar correction to individual turbines, relative to a time series location.

Area Screening

Access global overviews of existing substations or define your own. Screen sites based on slope, roads, grid distance, and environmental zones. Draw or upload polygons with constraint layers, split areas by MW/km², and generate LCoE heatmaps with pixel filtering—all in a single, visual interface.

Layout Optimisation

Design, compare, and optimise layouts with different turbine types, hub heights, and spacing w. Create regular, staggered, or microsited layouts and run AEP and LCoE simulations. Estimate wake losses from neighbouring farms and generate multiple cloud-based layout scenarios instantly. Our innovative algorithm, which is a major upgrade from gradient-based methods, minimizes wake losses or LCoE, as well as maximizes AEP through an iterative optimizer exploring beyond local optimals.

Validated Advanced Wake Models

Choose from industry-standard wake and blockage models like N.O. Jensen, TurbOPark, and Eddy Viscosity (co-developed with DTU). Run simulations that account for hub height, terrain, and air density, and assess both internal and external wake losses for financial and energy impact analysis. Perform fast wake loss calculations with no limitation in amount of turbines included.

Site Suitability

Evaluate turbulence intensity, terrain complexity, and turbine class compatibility. Apply IEC 61400-1 standards (ed. 2, 3, amendment 1, and draft 4), generate wind sector management strategies, and set suitability limits per layout to ensure compliance and performance.

Foundation Design

Estimate weight and material use for each onshore foundation based on turbine specifications and site conditions. Model fabrication requirements across the full wind farm footprint to inform structural and cost planning.

Electric System Design

Optimise cable layouts and grid connection design with intelligent, constraint-aware automation. Using preset onshore substation data and integrated grid sources globally or by adding customized ones, the platform streamlines electrical system planning, including more than one cable section, with built-in validation at every step. Both export and array cables are generated automatically accounting for exclusion zones, turbine protection radius, and development area constraints. Combining electric system design with roads building planning has never been more streamlined. Choose between multiple layout strategies — including radial (default), branched, and balanced cable strings — to deliver practical, buildable and cost-efficient designs.

Onshore Wind Logistics

Account for installation effort and costs from first phases with automatic road planning, including roads building modelling, including exclusion zones awareness (ex. Steep slopes) as well as customized road access locations. Choose logistic enablers from our preset libraries or add your own for accurate costs estimations.

Preset Libraries

Start quickly with libraries of wind farm components for accurate modelling. Customise data with new/duplicate functions and control quality with locking and full change-tracking across users and versions.

Bankable Yield Assessment

Generate P50 and P90 yield assessments using aligned wake and electrical loss data, with adaptation for curtailment and air density. Break down efficiencies, uncertainties, and availability using robust energy capture modelling that reflects real-world conditions.

IT security

SSO single sign on and 2FA authentication capability and intensive cyber security measures applied to users data.

Automatic Reporting

Generate customised reports directly from the dashboard, with access to all statistics and data for each layout—presented in clear tables and visual graphics. Reports can be downloaded in PDF or CSV format for easy sharing and further analysis.

Noise Modeling

Based on ISO 9613-2 noise propagation modelling, simulate turbine noise behavior and propagation by generating real-time noise maps across complex terrain fast. Define custom receiver points, test multiple wind directions, and instantly assess compliance with applicable noise limits — all directly within your layout scenario. Compare different noise modes for any turbine type from our library presets or upload your own noise curves for sensitivity analysis execution and best project traceability.

Visual Impact

Use 2D and 3D views with high level of terrain detail to assess the visual impact of your project with components shown in real proportion for a realistic evaluation. Generate viewsheds and impact charts from any nearby viewpoint to understand where the farm will be totally or partially visible, accounting for topography.

Exclusion Zones Management

Turn constraints into actionable no-go areas with the Exclusion Zones feature, which ensures the layout generator automatically respects defined restriction areas during turbine placement. Create these zones directly on the map, upload GIS layers, or automatically screen visible map features such as roads, forests, lakes, slopes, and buildings — with optional buffer distances applied as needed.
